Ken Murdock, Senior Minister Happy 4th of July! We celebrate our
freedom in the summer months. Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Ben
Franklin drafted the Declaration of Independence in June 1776, and it was
formally adopted by the Second Continental Congress in In Unity, during the months of July and August we celebrate our divine faculties of Understanding and Will. We have twelve Divine Powers of Christ and each month we have focused upon one, so as to dwell upon it in mind and strengthen it in kind in our thinking and affairs. It was Divine Understanding and Will that created the Declaration of Independence! To be truly free, as a spiritual being, we must recognize and understand that we are the Christ individualized just as we are. When we have a “strong leaning towards” our answer, it can be a sign we “understand” spiritually the answer. Often we cannot reason an answer to a question but we are guided intuitively. To “know from within” an answer to a question is evidence of our divine power of Understanding. When we combine the use of our divine powers of Understanding and Will, we “know what to do and we do it well.” We act decisively and our will moves our understanding into action. Let’s set ourselves “free” all summer and the rest of our lives by remembering to affirm, “I know what to do and I do it well,” whenever we are puzzled as to what to do or say. Then, Divine Understanding and Divine Will, our Divine Powers, are quickened and we are set free to make right decisions for our freedom and the good of all concerned. Each time we face a question, remember to affirm, “I know what to do and I do it well.” Have fun on your vacations and with your guests, and join us at church for a Unity Spiritual Family Picnic, following the service on July 6, 2008. This will be an old-fashioned covered-dish church picnic. Think of a large family and bring your favorite dishes to share. We will have hot dogs, veggie-dogs, and buns for you, and will provide the plates, cups, coffee and cold drinks. Bring a folding lawn chair, and be forewarned that John says he will beat all comers at horseshoes. Badminton and Frisbee will be fun, too! Let’s sip some mint iced tea under the shade trees together! Have a great summer and join me each week at church! Your presence blesses us all. We love you and need you to complete our family. Set yourself free this year! Rev. Ken Micah
Unity stands for peace in the presence of conflict; for love in the presence of hatred; for forgiveness in the presence of injury. Unity honors the many names for God, the many paths to God, the many ways to worship God; for there is only one power and presence of God and that God loves each one of us equally. It is therefore the position of Unity to urge all nations, their leaders, and their people to turn to God by whatever the name for guidance during these challenging times and pursue peace, not war, for this is what honors the God of all our faith traditions. Unity stands for peace in our lifetime.
